Environmental Product Declaration

Environmental Product Declaration

The Environmental Product Declaration, better known as EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is, in short, a tool designed to improve environmental communication between producers, on one hand (business to business), and distributors and consumers, on the other (business to consumers).
The EPD, provided for by EU environmental policies and derived from the ISO 14020 series of standards, is based on the explicit use of the LCA methodology, the cornerstone around which the Declaration revolves and the methodological foundation from which the objectivity of the information provided arises. While maintaining focus on the product, whether it be a good or a service, companies have the opportunity to communicate their strategies and commitment to directing production with respect for the environment, enhancing the product itself.

There are three different types of environmental labeling, established by the ISO 14020 series standards
TYPE I - ISO 14024
TYPE I - ISO 14024
Voluntary ecological labels based on a multi-criteria system that considers the entire life cycle of the product, subject to external certification by an independent body (these include, for example, the European ecological quality label ECOLABEL).
TYPE 2 - ISO 14021
TYPE 2 - ISO 14021
Ecological labels that report environmental self-declarations by producers, importers, or distributors of products, without the intervention of an independent certification body (including: "Recyclable", "Compostable", etc.).
TYPE 3 - ISO 14025
TYPE 3 - ISO 14025
Ecological labels that report declarations based on established parameters and contain a quantification of the environmental impacts associated with the product's life cycle calculated through an LCA system. They are subject to independent control and presented in a clear and comparable form. These include, for example, "Environmental Product Declarations".

A historic commitment to the environment

Cerelia has always built a strong relationship and bond with the local community based on preservation and cooperation in order to guarantee the utmost respect and quality of the area, without neglecting all the environmental characteristics that make our water special, rich in balanced minerals, of quality, and with therapeutic properties studied and certified from a chemical and clinical point of view.

Environmental Product Declarations

Our certification

In particular, the EPD, type III labeling, is a document used to communicate objective, comparable, and credible information regarding the environmental performance of products and services. This information is purely informative and does not provide for evaluation methods, preference criteria, or minimum levels that environmental performance must meet.

It uses Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as a methodology for identifying and quantifying environmental impacts. The application of the LCA must be in accordance with the ISO 14040 series of standards, so as to guarantee the objectivity of the information contained in the declaration.
It is applicable to all products or services, regardless of their use or position in the production chain; furthermore, a classification into well-defined groups is carried out so that comparisons can be made between functionally equivalent products or services.
It is verified and validated by an independent body that guarantees the credibility and truthfulness of the information contained in the LCA study and the declaration.
